Valley Christian - 2, Los Gatos- 3
Valley Christian squared
off against Los Gatos, this time in soccer, on Monday. The weather was
threatening with dark clouds, but the rain never really came.
The first half was
dominated by Valley, and a 5th minute goal from
Chase Harrell staked them to a 1-0
lead that stood until halftime. Chase took a ball at the top of the box
from Peter Osuna, and quickly turned and
shot the ball into the far post side netting to beat the LG keeper.
Several chances that came
from runs by Jeff Coggan and
Austin Keeling were thwarted by LG's
goalie. Valley continued it's gameplay domination into the second half,
but in the 68th minute, things changed.
The Los Gatos forward was
able to get past the VC backline and loft a soft shot that barely beat
Ben Hansen in the near post upper V tying the score 1-1.
Moments later, VC went up
again when Coggan fed an open Andrew Smith
who buried his second of the year.
With five minutes remaining
and VC up 2-1, Los Gatos fought like crazy and produced two goals. While
both goals were off of deflections, and could be seen as flukes...it was
enough to put the Warriors on the losing end of a 3-2 final. VC's
record is now 0-2-2.
The Warriors will look to
regroup ahead of their first league game on Thursday at home vs. St.
Francis who knocked off Palo Alto 3-0 on three second half goals Monday.
It will be a tough game, and weather may be a factor.
