Austin Keeling scores two in
victory. 11/26
A day after a torrential
downpour postponed the matchup, Valley Christian beat Homestead High
School on the strength of a Austin Keeling
double.
On a brisk sunny day, the
Warriors took it to Homestead from the opening whistle. In the first
half, Jeff Coggan took a ball from
Nathan Goldsmith off his chest and
slotted it home to put the Warriors up 1-0 going into the break.
The second half got off to
a good start when Peter Osuna finished off
a Goldsmith cross, 2-0 Warriors.
The Warriors made it 3-0
when Austin scored his first goal of the season. Coggan took the
ball past a few Homestead players and fired on goal. The 'keeper
made a save, but Keeling was there to put home the rebound.
At the end of regulation,
Keeling added the exclamation point. After beating a couple of
defenders with the dribble, Keeling passed the ball to Jeff Coggan who's
one time shot was saved. Once again, Austin was there to clean up
the rebound and put the Warriors ahead 4-0.
After the game, head coach
Aleks Vranicic commented on the Warriors
first win of the season. "We have a lot to work on, but I thought
we showed well today. We have another game tomorrow which will be
tough. Overall a good performance today."
The Warriors get an early
Christmas present on Saturday ahead of the game against Woodside.
Ben Hansen and Joey Stryker will join the team after winning the CCS
Open Division in Football.
