Stirm celebrates his first goal less than two minutes
in.
Stirm continues
domination at Nationals 11/19
Third
ranked Azusa Pacific Traveled to Olathe, Kansas to try it's luck in the
NAIA National Championships. Just the second time APU has reached
the Nat'l playoffs, APU will look to take home it's first ever Men's
Soccer National title.
First
Team ALL-GSAC and former VC star player Brandon Stirm, picked up right
where he left off scoring two goals in the Cougars opening match vs. #15
Mobile. His first goal coming in the 2nd minute staked APU to a
1-0 lead. His second, APU's 4th of the game, was of the breathtaking
variety. "I just hit it first time with my left...it went upper-v.
It was so incredible to score in this tournament!" said Stirm on
the phone minutes after the game.
On the
APU website, they had a few more quotes on the game. “This is the
biggest game of my life and to walk away with the win is just
incredible,” said Stirm. “I can’t explain just how excited I am. That
second goal is probably the best goal I’ve ever hit.”
“That kid (Stirm) is
unbelievable. He is such a pure ball-striker,” said Wolf (APU's head
coach). “If he can wrap his foot around it, you know it’s going to be on
frame and with pace. That last goal was an absolute cracker. For him to
do this on this stage is unreal.
The goals were his 6th and
7th to go with 9 assists, which led the team.
APU
will face #1 Lindsey Wilson on Saturday the 20th in Kansas. It's a
win or go home situation, and APU has what it takes to get it done.
