Jimmy Coggan scores game winner vs. Seattle
University
Even at 14-2-3, the Seattle
Pacific University Falcon's (ranked #5 in the NCAA DII) can't rest ahead
of the NCAA tourney selections. After all, last year they finished
13-2-3 and were left out in the cold.
For Jimmy Coggan,
having been reared in the unforgiving WCAL...this is nothing new.
This time, instead of Bellarmine or Mitty, it was arch rival Seattle
University. Since Jimmy has been at SPU, they have never gotten a
result vs. Seattle (3 losses). In fact, last year, 2 of the SPU's 3
losses came at the hands of SU who later went on to be crowned NCAA DII
National Champions.
In front of a rain-drenched
crowd of over 500 people, Coggan did what the home fans have become
accustomed to...he scored the winner.
The goal came in the 60th
minute on an assist from Matt Kemper. Coggan beat the SU keeper to the
ball and re-directed the ball with his head to score.
For the VC Alum, and
all-time leading scorer at VC, it was his 5th goal of the season to go
with 4 assists. This is James' second game winner in just over a
week, having notched the goal in the 1-0 win over Cal State Monterey Bay
on 10/29.
For SPU, the win puts them
in the NCAA tournament with games beginning November 10.
