Austin Mansker Racks Up Post-Season Honors 3/30
Valley
Christian goalkeeper Austin Mansker
was named to the San Jose Mercury News' 2nd Team All Central
Coast Section (CCS) team today. The selection recognizes Austin as
the second best 'Keeper out of the 120+ schools in CCS. Needless
to say, Austin was the only Freshman recognized in this way.
"It's well deserved, and that's saying a lot considering
how many great goalkeepers there are in CCS. He had a phenomenal
year, and the Mercury News recognized him for that," Coach
John Basanese said.
In addition to the 2nd team All-CCS award, Mansker was
also recognized as the San Jose Mercury News' Freshman of the
Year. The award is given to the top player, of any position, in
the 9th grade.
"It speaks for itself. Austin was clearly the top
Freshman in CCS this year. This is the best possible way for him
to start off his high school career. It'll only get better from
here." Basanese continued.
The future looks bright for this young man, as it does
for the entire VC Soccer program.
"You build a program around a kid like Austin, but we
have some incredible young talent on our team. Next year, and the
new few should be very good for us. He's a great kid, and I really
look forward to having him around for 3 more years!" Basanese concluded.
Austin was also named the 'Impact Player of the Year' at
Valley Christian, and the first freshman in recent history to be named to the WCAL
1st Team.
